Moving from graphic design to user experience

My passion for design started after graduating from college with a triple distinction. This then awarded me a scholarship to go to the University of Reading where I studied Graphic Communication & Typography. This became my entry point into understanding more about user experience design and designing for the web. Once graduated with honours, I worked as a digital designer for over 6 years then move into the User Experience where I began reading and implementing best practices for User experience. Now I am working within a specialised User experience consultancy that uses methodologies of psychology to help understand and encourage users to interact and navigate websites to achieve their own goals.

My Education & Background

  • Experience in a multitude of professional sectors – Including Pharmaceutical, charity, technology and hospitality.

UX Designer & Consultant

My role in OrangeGrove is to be involved in all UX projects starting from discovery meetings up until the date of launch. This involves me working closely with the client directly and indirectly as well as having the following responsibilities:

  • Building Technical Specification documents for clients' approval
  • Creating user Journeys & personas
  • Constructing Low & High-Fidelity Wireframes in Adobe XD
  • Generating Fully Interactive Prototypes in Adobe XD
  • Designing a modern interface with a UI Kit
  • Recording Explainer Videos of the decisions made
  • Responding directly to client feedback
  • Working Directly with Internal & External Developers

Clever Little Design

UX Designer

My role in Clever Little Designs was working with account managers to accurately scope out projects and create accurate prototypes using Marvel to present to the client either via video call or in-room meetings. My role also included but was not limited to the following responsibilities:

  • Working to tight deadlines with fixed budgets tracked in Harvest
  • Creating Low & High-Fidelity Wireframes in Sketch
  • Building Fully Interactive Prototypes in Marvel
  • Designing web-ready files for front-end developers
  • Presenting concepts directly back to the Managing Director & end client
  • Responding directly to client feedback via email or asana

Screaming Frog

Senior Digital Designer

My role in Screaming Frog was working with SEO consultants to research and design infographics & interactive tools to engage customers and drive traffic to a customer's website using backlinks. My role also included but was not limited to the following responsibilities:

  • Working to scheduled deadlines and tracking progress in asana
  • Managing a team of three designers from Junior to Mid-level
  • Working closely with Front end developers and account managers to brainstorm and problem solve
  • Mentoring and providing feedback on work to improve processes
